Audi Club North America Event Rules

Tags: National

Driving School Criteria:
Participants must be Audi Club members for Advanced Driving schools; they need not be members to attend teen, women’s only and low speed schools.

Exercises will be mandatory for all novice drivers; classroom instruction will be mandatory for novices and recommended for intermediate and advanced drivers.

Either open-faced or closed-face helmets may be worn; we are taking no position on the airbag issue. The minimum helmet standards rating for Audi Club events for 2011 has been set at Snell rated 2000 or later (M2000, SA2000, or K2000 or later are okay).

Whether the car windows are open or closed, if that seat is occupied or not, will be determined by the host track, safety personnel or venue.

Participants will not be required to disclose their medical needs. It is suggested to include a medical questionnaire & prescription medication on the separate form. This disclosure will be sealed in an envelope by the participant, handed to the Event Coordinator or EMT, and returned to the participant if not needed.
Corner workers and emergency safety personnel required.

All participants must sign an original Wisenberg Insurance waiver. In a pinch the wavier on Wisenberg’s website is acceptable if printed in color.

Participants should check with their insurance carrier for coverage while attending an Audi Club Advanced Driving School.

Timing / scoring is prohibited at Driving Schools or lapping events.

Any on-track incident involving damage to a vehicle should be reported to Karen at National immediately. It is suggested to use an Incident Reporting Statement to gather information and respond to the situation.

Any overly aggressive or reckless driving by any participant / instructor will not be allowed. Four wheels off track is aggressive or reckless driving, excluding a mechanical problem. Continued aggressive or reckless driving is grounds for expulsion for the day and or the event. Whether any refund will be given may be determined by the Event Coordinator or Chief Instructor.

Instructors will only drive a student’s car in the student’s run group.

If upgraded safety harnesses are used they shall be the same on both sides (if the right seat is occupied). Installation should be to factory attachment points and/or approved by safety steward.

Guest, Professional Drivers or Instructors at ACNA Events:

  1. Under no circumstances will these drivers be allowed to drive in any run group other than the advanced or instructor group.
  2. This vehicle, their own or a participant's,  shall be clearly marked on the windshield and rear glass as a guest driver.
  3. This vehicle must pass technical inspection.  Tech Check
  4. No personal or contracted instruction, for a fee, will be allowed at any ACNA event.
  5. If a guest driver is granted permission to drive a participant's vehicle in the advanced or instructor run group, the vehicle owner needs to be advised to the risk of potential damage to their vehicle.
  6. These guest drivers must abide by all ACNA driving school rules and guidelines.
  7. Event Coordinators shall contact ACNA Driving School Committee prior to a guest driver participating at their event.

Convertibles at Driving Schools:
The current guideline is the minimum recommendation set by ACNA.
Any track venue or ACNA Chapter may at their discretion set more stringent recommendations.

The recommended minimum guideline for consideration beginning January 1, 2006:

No convertibles will be allowed to participate at any ACNA driving school that takes place at a "race track" - This includes TTs, Boxsters, BMWs etc.
Vehicles with factory roll hoops and / or deployable roll over protection will not be allowed.

The above excluded vehicles will be allowed to participate at the following venues where maximum speed is not to exceed 50 MPH;

  1. Exercises at a driving school if the exercises are not held on the track but in a confined area.
  2. Autocross events if the maximum speed is controlled.
  3. Teen driving clinics.
  4. Winter driving schools.

For these vehicles to participate at these low speed events the broomstick rule must be enforced.
Minimum clearance, with helmet, of one>two inches below the imaginary line from the roll hoop to the top of the windshield frame.

For the above excluded vehicles to be allowed to participate at a "race track” the minimum requirements are;

  1. A four point roll cage consisting of a main hoop behind the front seats with two rear braces.
  2. A four and preferably five point safety harness.
  3. Arm restraints are recommended but not required at this time.

Removable hard tops are not considered structural roofs. The only exception is if they meet the minimum "race track" requirements.

SUV’s at Driving schools:
No SUV’s or SAV’s are allowed at any Audi Club Driving School, this includes the Audi Q7. The only possible exception would be at an Ice Driving School.

Any questions with these Driving School Guidelines, please contact one of the following ACNA BOD members on this committee.
