Improve your driving skills with the Audi Club! |
Dear Audi Driver,
The Audi Car Club of Kansas City and Molle Audi would like to invite you to participate in a Drivers School. The school will be held at Heartland Park Topeka on March 23rd through the 25th. The event purpose is to help you learn both your capabilities and those of your Audi Performance vehicle.
Improve your driving skills with the Audi Club! You bought the car that came with lots of safety features, like airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control, etc. Most likely your car is equipped with Quattro® all-wheel-drive. You passed your high school driver's education class with flying colors, and you got your driver's license on the first try. Is that all you need to be a safe driver and still have fun with your car? Read on…
More and more drivers like you are purchasing high-performance cars these days, as some mid-level sedans now come equipped with 250 horsepower standard. Drivers wanting the top of the line in performance can buy street cars with over 400 horsepower; all of this without any requirement to prove that the buyer has the skill necessary to operate the car safely and effectively. Those 250 HP are great for getting the family up to speed on that onramp, but what about when a sharp curve approaches? Not every driver understands vehicle dynamics and how they and their car will respond to all of the variables at work. How is traction affected if it's raining or snowing outside? How will the car react to sudden steering inputs? How will the driver react if they realize that they entered the curve too fast? Is the driver prepared for wildlife or debris that may be around the curve just out of sight?
The fact is that most U.S. drivers have never been taught how to react in those situations. Sure, maybe your driver's education teacher (likely also the gym teacher or football coach) discussed what to do in the class you took 20 years ago. But did they demonstrate it in a car? Did you practice any of those theories in your own car during that course? Chances are, all you did was take a written test and drive around the block a few times. How can you be certain that you will react safely and effectively when faced with an emergency situation and no time to think about it?
One of the goals upon which the Audi Car Club of Kansas City was founded was the idea that driving skills can and should be improved with practice in a controlled environment. After all, how better to enjoy your car than to be confident that you really know how it will react in all situations? The Audi Club has been hosting driving education events at facilities around the country for years. Usually, these events are held at racetracks, because those venues provide ample space, no oncoming traffic, plenty of runoff room, and workers before each corner with flags to warn drivers of any upcoming danger. Despite being at a racetrack, the events are not competitive, are not timed, and most certainly are not racing. Beginner students have an experienced instructor in the car at all times to guide them through the learning process. Some intermediate and advanced students start with an instructor in the car, but graduate to solo status after proving their level of safety and skill. Classroom sessions while not in the car provide valuable theory and discussion that complement what is learned in the car. Students are never pushed beyond their comfort and skill levels. Faster drivers are allowed to pass slower drivers under strict guidelines for everyone's safety, keeping all drivers feeling safe and confident of their surroundings.
The Audi Car Club of Kansas City will be holding the Driver's School on March 23rd-25th, 2007 at Heartland Park Topeka
Lessons and skills learned at these events really do transfer to everyday driving, as numerous former students attest to all the time. Many prior students report avoiding accidents thanks to things they learned at these events. Many others report simply enjoying their daily commute more knowing more about themselves and their cars. There really is no better way to improve your skills.
